Wyoming - Centennial Mountain View Hotel & Café HWY 130 Webcam
Centennial Wyoming, elevation 8076', at the base of the Snowy Range Mountains, 30 miles west of Laramie, is at the entrance to the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest home of the Snowy Range Ski Area. Our Historic Hotel was one of the first three structures built in Centennial and opened with the arrival of the first train. The Hotel was owned and operated by the same company that built the railroad, the Laramie Hahn's Peak & Pacific Railroad. While still a small community we have multiple restaurants and gift stores.
The Centennial Ridge View shows Highway 130 looking west/southwest and the Hogbacks just behind Centennial. The highway is a National Scenic By-Way, which is closed 10 miles west of Centennial from Nov. 15 – Memorial Weekend due to the heavy snowfall the Snowies receive. Atop the ridge are remnants of the Queen Gold Mine and miles of hiking, ATV and snowmobile trails. There are many glacial lakes with abundant fishing.

History: The first settlement in the area of present-day Centennial were tie camps established in 1868 (150 years ago) to provide railroad ties to the Union Pacific with the first homestead the following year. Shortly thereafter, the tie hacks had to withdraw from the area due to disagreements with the Indians. In 1875 by I. P. Lambing of Golden, Colorado discovered the Centennial Mine named in honor of the country's hundredth anniversary. In 1877, the vein of gold ended at a fault. The continuation of the vein on the other side of the fault has never been found. Thus, the original mines failed. Prospectors continued to hope.
