Centennial Valley Sheep Mountain Webcam Mountain View Hotel & Cafe

8/15/2020 Smoke views of the Cameron Peak Fire webcam North Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests West of Fort Collins south of Centennial WY.

Centennial Wyoming, elevation 8076', at the base of the Snowy Range Mountains, 30 miles west of Laramie, is at the entrance to the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest home of the Snowy Range Ski Area.  Our Historic Hotel was one of the first three structures built in Centennial and opened with the arrival of the first train.  The Hotel was owned and operated by the same company that built the railroad, the Laramie Hahn's Peak & Pacific Railroad.  While still a small community we have multiple restaurants and gift stores.

Looking southeast across Centennial Valley, a perfect U-Shaped valley, between Sheep Mountain to the east and Centennial Ridge to the west there are  a few homesteads and ranches. In the spring and fall we have a large Elk Herd move across the valley.  At the south end of the valley is the Deerwood Wild Horse EcoSanctuary.  If you look past the tornado siren on a clear day you can see Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.  Can you see the alien reclining on the southern slope?

Today our hotel offers historic charm with Modern Amenity Lodging, a cafe serving breakfast and lunch 6 days a week and a coffee roaster on site.  Whatever your mountain adventure : downhill skiing, snowshoe, cross country ski, hike, fish, snowmobile, bird watching, weddings and Family gatherings, we have the lodging to meet your needs.  The Highest Coffee Roaster in Wyoming.

History: The first settlement in the area of present-day Centennial were tie camps established in 1868 (150 years ago) to provide railroad ties to the Union Pacific with the first homestead the following year. Shortly thereafter, the tie hacks had to withdraw from the area due to disagreements with the Indians. In 1875 by I. P. Lambing of Golden, Colorado discovered the Centennial Mine named in honor of the country's hundredth anniversary. In 1877, the vein of gold ended at a fault. The continuation of the vein on the other side of the fault has never been found. Thus, the original mines failed. Prospectors continued to hope.
